Torn

Torn
this project began as a single face on a sheet of printer paper. it then snowballed as most visions do into something a single page just couldn't contain. for a long time i worked on this in my spare time. in the middle of many cold winter nights with my hands frozen. it began from this need to express the heartache from which this calamity stemmed from. see to my utter sadness i had drawn a portrait of someone very dear to me who i hadn't seen in a very long time. i drew it while visiting extended family (if you would call them that) and in that short frame of time, i was forced to find that portrait ripped up by the very person i had long realized had always abhored me but never the less blood ties us like shoelaces.
so in a moment of rage and opportunity when my guard was down, this person ransacked my belongings, found the portrait and in a jelous tantrum took what id poured my heart into and tore it up to bits. he essentially did his utmost to poison it, and i cant lie, momentarily it worked. i felt deeply broken and disturbed by the sheer audacity, i however could not let the disrespect stand. so i went home i took out my colors, i got my printer paper and i started to turn colors into shapes, then into eyes and faces. before i knew it i had created a collage mural not like anything i had ever done before. it was the first one i ever did and sadly since it was done before i could afford archival grade paper it is one day going to fade out in its entirety quicker than the rest of my works, but it will fade as most things are meant to do.
Nevertheless i cant be so saddened at the thought of that because the truth is i never did intend to finish it. it just so happened that one day in the midst of my chucking around art supplies with a friend present, the girls face i had started with was at the forefront of a binder laid about, when my friend came across it. the binder held a stack of seemingly random pages thrown into a pile but i guess it was less random and more like a puzzle. easily she saw the same colors littering the pages and it piqued her interest, she asked me about it and on my unmade bed i began to lay out the half finished piece. it was about 16 pages id laid out in unison before she begged me to see it to completion. These are the pages you see in unison in the photo above.
in totality it will be about 40 pages, perhaps more though it currently sits unfinished. Though i plan to finish it, only time will tell how large it ends up being in finality.
though part of it i started forming from a storm behind me, the other half of the vision which was the silent angel watching over, still has yet to be completed. this was my first mural piece and i am proud to say its peices are home with my freind as I add to it, until it reaches its completion. Truthfully even uncompleted the concept itself feels like this mural is one of those priceless things that exist in the hidden recesses of my world.
